Trixie Watson has two very important goals for senior year: to finally save enough to buy the set of Doctor Who figurines at the local comic books store, and to place third in her class and knock Ben West–and his horrendous new mustache that he spent all summer growing–down to number four.
Trixie will do anything to get her name ranked over Ben’s, including give up sleep and comic books–well, maybe not comic books–but definitely sleep. After all, the war of Watson v. West is as vicious as the Doctor v. Daleks and Browncoats v. Alliance combined, and it goes all the way back to the infamous monkey bars incident in the first grade. Over a decade later, it’s time to declare a champion once and for all.
The war is Trixie’s for the winning, until her best friend starts dating Ben’s best friend and the two are unceremoniously dumped together and told to play nice. Finding common ground is odious and tooth-pullingly-painful, but Trixie and Ben’s cautious truce slowly transforms into a fandom-based tentative friendship. THIS BOOK. OHMYGOD. It’s too freaking cute and I can’t handle it.   Absolutely adored this book.

“But who would have done it?” he asked finally.
“How should I know?  I’m no Veronica Mars.”
He started at me with vacant, glassy eyes.
“She’s a detective on TV.  And there was a movie,” blurted the frosh.  And then, in a much smaller voice, “The movie was really good…”

I thought I knew where this was going and sure, sometimes I did but mostly it was a delightful surprise.   I didn’t see the major parts of the plot coming and that made me so happy that it wasn’t a predictable contemporary.

The references to all things nerd made me fall in love with this book but the characters made me stay.  I want to be friends with the main characters.  They’re so down-to-earth, smart, and funny.  There’s snark. There’s banter.  There’s fangirling.

Trixie. Oh Trixie. Her mind is brilliant.  I loved reading about her.  She and Ben are truly perfect for each other.  Though, Ben can be a bit of an ass at times– don’t get me wrong, Trixie has some bite to her as well.

I didn’t want to waste my time.  I didn’t want someone who wouldn’t understand when I referenced Tony Stark, Mal Reynolds, and Alexander Hamilton in the same breath- all handsome rogues, obviously.   I wanted somone who didn’t need me to backtrack and explain everything.  Someone who would escort me to midnight showings but never ask me to dress up to attend.

Their group of friends are everything.  They’re so close and they stand up for what they believe in. I love the texting between the group of friends.  It was so amusing to read their conversations.

If you’re any kind of fangirl, you’ll love this.  There are so many wonderful quips and references to every kind of fangirl.  I couldn’t kept a smile off my face.  It was hilarious but don’t take my word for it, read it yourself!

Meg: STAG PARTY EXCEPT NOT WITH STRIPPERS!

This was witty and had a fresh voice. I could not put it down.  I will be watching for more Lily Anderson novels.  So, fangirls (and boys), pick up this book now!
