The Broke and the Bookish hosts a weekly meme called Top Ten Tuesday. This week’s topic is Ten Books I Picked Up On A Whim. I’m not really a person who picks books up on a whim unless it’s super cheap. I have such a weird process when it comes to book buying so it generally takes a lot of consideration for me to actually spend money on a book that I’m not 100% sure on.
- The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
I just picked this up at a thrift store. I haven’t started reading it yet but it seemed intriguing. - The Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson
Since I’m such a Disney freak, I’m surprised I haven’t read this sooner. But I found it at a thrift store and thought fate but it there during my Disney withdrawals. I haven’t read it yet though. - The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter
The ebook was on sale. I figured, why not? - The Tiger’s Wife by Tea Obrent
I kept seeing this in the bookstore. Then one day, I decided I was just going to buy it and I’m so glad I did. It’s one of my favorites. - The Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen
I think this was one sale as an ebook as well. I fell in love with this story. - Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
I saw this when it first came out and I was inexplicably drawn to it. Such a fun summer story! - Soulless by Gail Carriger
I remember seeing this YEARS ago but putting it back because I didn’t have money. Last year, I finally found it again and I simply adore the characters. - Size 12 is Not Fat by Meg Cabot
I found this book around my house and I had nothing to read so I read it and laughed and laughed. Best find. - Trouble is a Friend of Mine by Stephanie Tromly
I don’t remember when I first heard about it last summer but I read the description and immediately pre-ordered it. I devoured it and I couldn’t believe more people weren’t talking about it. In case you were unsure, I highly recommend- go read it! - Uprooted by Naomi Novik
I was walking around the bookstore, like I do, and the cover caught my eye. It seemed familiar. It was calling to me. I bought it without a second thought and relished in the words.
What’s on your TTT? Do you love most of your whims or find yourself disappointed?
Happy Tuesday, y’all!
Uprooted is a book I am looking forward to reading SOON! 🙂 My TTT

Uprooted was amazing! I still have yet to own a physical copy of it, though, since I’d read it a while back when it was still an ARC. It does have a lovely cover (and I’m actually just as much a fan of its European version as well).

I love all the covers. That’s the one thing that bothers me about ARCs. If I read & love them on Net Galley, I want to buy the physical copy but it’s hard to justify buying a book I’ve already read.

Thank you! I totally recommend The Malediction Trilogy. It’s such an interesting concept.

I hope you like The Historian when you get around to it. I loved it when I read it! Granted, that was like 6 years ago now. I keep meaning to do a reread, but I’m scared it will shatter how ideal the book has become to me. Either way, I remember it being a very intriguing mystery.

I hate that feeling! There’s so many books that I’m afraid to reread now.

As books are generally getting more expensive in Canada, I tend to only buy them when it’s discounted and that’s when I’m hit with the most “whim”-buys hahaha. That being said, I still haven’t found a copy of Uprooted for myself but I’m hoping to soon!
Cheers,
Joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts.
