Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Authors

Once again, I have joined The Broke and the Bookish’s Top Ten Tuesday! This week’s topic is Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Authors.  I have no idea how they expected this to be capped at 10. It should be Top Twenty This Tuesday… And since I can’t decide who’s #1, these authors are going in alphabetical order. I’m also just going to say that this was hard to come up with when I’m not currently living in the same space as all my books are.  They are at my parent’s house and I am in Florida for another month. Trying to remember all the wonderful authors that I’ve been obsessed with is a little difficult when I can’t see my overflowing bookshelves!

1. Ann Brashares  I have officially read all but one of her books.  But I do have it and it’s sitting at home waiting for me. I want to read more from her! So bad.

2. Libba Bray Ever since reading A Great and Terrible Beauty, I have followed what books she’s come up with next.  Some I enjoyed. Some I didn’t. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to give up on her. I enjoyed The Diviners, and I’m excited to read the next one. But I haven’t loved a character like Gemma quite as much since.

3. Meg Cabot I devoured Meg Cabot when I was growing up.  Her series were so addicting to read.  Of course, now I need to do a reread before a couple of her new books come out! I also should catch up on her more recent books. I got away from reading them after thinking they weren’t as good as The Princess Diaries or The Mediator Series, in my eyes at least.  The

4. Ally Carter I’ve just recently gotten into Ally Carter and I’m quite happy I did.  I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

5. Sarah Dessen I have loved her for at least half of my life. That’s scary… but she will always be one of my favorite young adult authors. I still read all of her novels sight unseen.

6. Diana Gabaldon  Does she count as one of my favorites when I’ve only read a book and a half of hers? I’m going to say that it does but I absolutely love Outlander.

7. Neil Gaiman  I don’t really think he needs an explanation. All love.

8. John Green I don’t know how I can’t have him on my list.  I’m just patiently waiting for his next book.

9. Sara Gruen I can’t wait to get my hands on At The Water’s Edge! It’s sitting in my amazon cart right now waiting for my next paycheck.  I adored Water for Elephants. Which, incidentally, I read 4 years ago doing my first DCP and here I am yet again in Florida, probably reading her newest book on my road trip home.

10. Maureen Johnson  MJ! Not only is she one of my favorite authors… but she’s one of my favorite authors to follow on Twitter. She’s witty in real life and in her books, which is one of the reasons why I love her so much.

11. Susannah Kearsley I’m still trying to read through all her books! After coming across her historical fiction novels somewhat randomly, I fell in love.  Now I have too many to catch up but I’m happy that it seems I will have a new one to curl up with when I need a historical fiction fix. There’s just something wonderful about her writing that makes you feel like you’re reading about old friends.

12.  Morgan Matson  I’ve interested in seeing what new novels she’s going to come up with.  I’ve loved all of them so far!

13. Erin Morgenstern  The Night Circus is in my top 5 favorite books. I need to read more from this author. WHEN WILL THERE BE MORE?

13.  Robert Munsch Such a great children’s author! I loved his books when I was little.  The Paper Bag Princess, Love You Forever, and Thomas’ Snowsuit, need I say more?

14. Jodi Piccoult Jodi! I started reading her books in high school and I’ve been hooked ever since.  I know that whenever I pick up one of her books, I’m not going to be disappointed.  She’s another one where I haven’t read all of her books yet but hope that I never run out! I’ve been keeping up with her most recents but I need to go back and read her others!

16. Rainbow Rowell  I have finally read all 4 of her books. I didn’t want to have to wait until the next one came out. But now here I am waiting for Carry On. Fall cannot come soon enough.

17. J.K. Rowling Again, I think this is a given. It’s the creator of Harry Potter, aka, my childhood.

18. Rob Thomas He’s the creator of Veronica Mars. There’s no way he can’t be on this list.

19. Scott Westerfeld If I could meet him at Book Con, I’d die.  I couldn’t stop reading Afterworlds. (I’ve read the majority of his others, too, don’t worry.)

20. Joss Whedon  He’s a stretch, I know. He’s typically a screenwriter… but he did write some Buffyverse graphic novels there… I would be entirely too interested if he did write a novel of some sort.  I’m sure it would be genre-bending or a breakthrough of some kind.  I would devour it.

What are your favorite authors? Were you able to cap it at 10?

  1. J.K. Rowling has graced all the Top Ten Tuesdays I’ve read so far today, including mine. We are all definitely the Harry Potter Generation – haha. Love your list. I’ll have to check out some of the authors you listed for sure!

    1. That we are and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙂 Lemme know if you want book recommendations for some of them, especially if you haven’t encountered the author before!
