Black Friday or Book Buying Friday?

I joined the horrible day that is the day after Thanksgiving: Black Friday.

But I didn’t go get a TV or a new Blu Ray player. I didn’t wait in line for hours on end.  I didn’t stand out in the cold.  I slept in. I left for my mall at 6:30pm and I went to Barnes & Noble.

I bought books.

These books were apart of their normal buy two get the third free deal. But I had never seen these books as part of the selection before.  I walked away with The Secret History by Donna Tart, Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, and The Martian by Andy Weir.  All books that have been sitting on my to-read list but I have never gotten around to buying them. I’m excited to review them!

Every Barnes & Noble store was carrying signed copies of books.  I had been putting off buying the special edition of Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell for so long. I can’t tell you how many times I put it in and took it out of my cart online.  I’m so glad I never bought it because it would have been a bit ridiculous to have 3 copies of the same book.  Yes Please by Amy Poehler is a Christmas gift for my mom, which I may read before I wrap it!  Donna Tart’s The Goldfinch was my impulse buy. It’s been on my to-read list for a while and I couldn’t pass it up a signed copy!

I have to say, this is the way to do Black Friday: online shopping and bookstores.

As you can see, my day was tame but lucrative. I wrapped up my evening by going to see Mockingjay Part 1 with my mom.  It was the second time I’ve seen it in theaters but it was a first for her.  It’s been about 4 years since I’ve read the series and I think it’s about time for a re-read.  Maybe in the Spring or next Fall before the last film comes out.

Did you get any good book deals yesterday?
